Wedding websites are not just a new fad – they can be a powerful resource for you, your wedding party and your guests. Along with your wedding invitations, your wedding website can be a centralized location where information about your wedding is posted, updated and shared. This will allow everyone to stay up-to-date on announcements, events and more. However, just having a website with a few pictures and a blurb about how you met your future spouse is not going to cut it. So how do you create an effective wedding website? Keep reading to find out.

Wedding Website Essentials

1. A photo of you and your spouse-to-be on the home page. When someone visits your website, you want to make sure they immediately know it’s about you. Include a favorite picture that reflects your personalities.

2. A story. Though your family and best friends will be invited to the wedding, often there will also be guests you’re not so familiar with like your future in-laws’ friends or great aunt Petunia twice-removed who you haven’t seen since your 5th birthday. To get everyone excited about the wedding and familiar with the guests of honor, add a short story about how you met and about the proposal. However, don’t go on too long, or you’ll lose your audience.

3. Important dates. Even if you are sending out a save-the-date notice, it doesn’t hurt to have a constant reminder of when the wedding is going to be. If you are having an engagement party and if the shower, bachelor party and bachelorette party are not a surprise, include the dates for those as well.

4. List of registries. As you register for gifts, provide a list of stores for your guests. If any of the stores you’ve registered at have websites, consider including links so guests can browse or shop online.

5. Contact information. As the wedding draws closer, your guests might have questions for you. If your maid of honor, best man or parents are tackling any of the planning, you might want to add their contact information as well (with their permission!).

6. Directions. Save money and paper by forgoing directions cards and simply post the necessary information online. Help out-of-town guests by adding a list of transportation services.

7. Hotels. If you anticipate having more than a few out-of-town guests, provide a list of local hotels with price and contact info.

Though you don’t need to include much more than the seven items listed above, there’s nothing stopping you from creating an even more unique website. Consider adding a song, YouTube videos, a photo gallery or links to the reception location. Furthermore, your wedding website won’t only be helpful in the months leading up to the wedding, but it can also be a place for guests to reconvene afterwards, to share and look at pictures of the wedding and honeymoon and post comments. You can also post a general appreciation message to tide them over while you write all your thank you notes.

If you’re planning on a budget, you might be worried that a website is an extravagance you can’t afford. This is not the case – you can get an affordable, professionally designed website for a reasonable price. So get ready to impress your guests!

Photo cards make great invitations if you are hoping to do something with a personal touch. They are appropriate for many different events and occasions, and are fun to design. The next time you need to order invitations, think about whether the photo card might be a good way to go.

Wedding invitations and Save the Dates work well with photos. You can use an engagement photograph on the front, or even pictures of the bride and groom as children. Other ideas include things such as a photograph of the church or wedding ceremony site, or a picture of the flowers that will be used that day. There are many different ways to utilize photos for this type of invitation.

Graduations are another occasion where the photo invitation works well. Take a picture of the school with the graduate in front of it for the front cover or use a picture of roses and a rolled up “diploma” that you can make yourself with a piece of paper and ribbon. Get creative and have fun coming up with different ideas until you find one that you really like.

Birthday parties are another invite that can be dressed up with a photograph. Take a picture of the birthday boy or girl and use it on the card, or use one that you have from when they were younger. If you prefer, you can wrap up a few “presents” and use that as a photo, or use a picture of a birthday cake if you have one from another party.

Party invites are a lot of fun to create, and they can reflect a theme, or just be fun. If you are having a get-together with friends at your home, why not use a photo of your house or yard as the invitation? If you have a yearly event that people attend, use a picture from the previous year as the invite. There are many different things you can do for this type of occasion. Use your imagination!

Baptisms are another event that can be a good candidate for the photo invitation. Simply take a picture of your child and use it for the front of the card. If you want to, you can even dress them up in what they will be wearing that day, to get the full effect. Another option is to just photograph the gown or outfit itself, or even just a corner of the lace edging of the gown to use for the front of the invitation.

Everybody loves photographs, and they can really add a nice touch to your invitations if you don’t mind doing just a little bit of extra work. Use pictures that you already have or take them yourself. Either way, they are a great way to make your invitations a little bit more personal.

How can I send wedding announcements when I don't have a location in mind?

You’re getting married and you’ve chosen a date, but you aren’t sure of the location. So far, the only place you’ve been able to find that is free on that date is your Aunt Minnie’s local bingo hall and it really isn’t your dream place. You want to hold out for a better location, but you’re afraid all of your friends and family will commit to other events if you don’t send out wedding invitations. Should you just settle for the bingo hall and try to disguise it with a ton of decorations so you can mail off the invitations?

Actually, if you’ve been looking at VistaPrint’s invitation choices, you may have noticed that you can also choose announcements. One of those announcements is a simple “Save the Date” card, which is ideal for a couple that has a date in mind for the wedding, but isn’t sure of the location. When you send out these cards, you still have a chance to have a wedding in a place that doesn’t bring orthopedic shoes and blue hair to mind, but your loved ones will know that you need them to keep the wedding day free while you are hunting for the perfect location.

Can a printing company make wedding return address stickers special?

By the time you have created a list of people to invite to your wedding, you have several, if not hundreds of people to mail invitations to. It is going to be time consuming enough to write their names and addresses on the envelopes, so there is no way you’re going to write your return address on all of them and then fill out the address information on the RSVP postcards, too. Wedding return address stickers are going to be your new best friend.

To really make your return labels special, why not upload your engagement portrait? This company makes it really simple to use your own logo or art to customize one of the address label layout options. Simply choose a design, double click on the white space to upload your image and choose the image you want to use from your computer’s files. After the image is uploaded, they prompt you to resize it or crop it to fit the space on the label. Take a moment to admire that happy couple on the label proof. You have some gorgeous wedding address labels and you have freed up enough time to move on to the next wedding-planning challenge.
