Love the press
There is a saying, “Love the press and the press will love you.” Local media can be a small business’s best friend, especially during those slow summer months. Try to attract local media to your small business. Host a local musician at your bar, or a poet at your café. Charge a small admission fee and donate the money charity. You will gain new customers as well as respect in the community.
Also, events for children are great for business. Local newspapers and new stations love these events, too. They are fun and present tons of great photo opportunities. Have a “Make your own cupcake” day at your bakery or a “dress as your favorite character” day at your bookstore.
Whatever type of small business you own, open it up to the community and inform the local media. This is an inexpensive and fun way to advertise.
